Summary:  The Foster Care Worker, under the direct supervision of the Social Services Director, will seek and contact Foster Parents who would be appropriate placements for Foster children. This requires knowledge of each Foster home characteristic and each Foster child’s individual circumstances so as to arrange and maintain appropriate placements. As well as process and complete Foster home studies for licensing, background clearance, monitoring and supervision of Foster homes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Must find appropriate homes and licensing in accordance with the CFR Part 20.507, tribal standards and policy.
  • Must make sure all foster homes are certified or licensed by the Tribe or other appropriate authority, ensuring that a background check is completed prior to placement as required by Public Law 101-630.
  • Will recruit Foster Parents through the utilization of the local media such as radio stations, newspapers, and the general public for interviews and written announcements.
  • Completes Foster home studies for initial Foster Care applicants, relative and guardian placements and maintains case records and documents for all ongoing Foster Care providers.
  • Monitors and supervises Foster homes through monthly telephone contact and visitation.
  • Provides support and consultation service to foster parents in collaboration with the Human Service Worker, Law Enforcement and Protective Services in accordance with Tribal Standards and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains case records by keeping dictation current, recording all Foster care activity, problems, and incidents that affect licensing status.
  • Preserves confidential nature of case records, follows agency and program procedures for case recording and maintenance.
  • Responsible for maintaining high quality services to Foster parents characterized by courtesy and respect for all individuals involved and establishing good working relationships with agency and other community sources
  • Provide timely submission of report, supporting documentation and statistics; preserving confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Must be able to work out of the office, to include client transportation and in conducting home visitations; may be required to work nights, weekends and/or holidays in cases of home visits and foster parent training.
  • Will participate in staffing conducted at the placement institution, if required.
  • Must follow through with all Foster Care payments in accordance with state and Federal standards.
  • Will provide training for the Foster Families (optional for relative placement).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Social Services Director.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies required or an AA Degree with (3) years experience in Social Work field can be substituted for BA level requirements.

Certificates and Licenses:

Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Insurance Plan. Must provide a DMV Report with application.
