VISION:
The vision of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Education Department is to inspire Native Americans to obtain a High School/General Equivalency Diploma and to pursue the highest possible level of education so that all may have a more fulfilling and productive life.

MISSION:

The mission of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Education Department is to serve Native American students and their families through quality supplemental educational programs that reflect the rich culture heritage of the Pipa Aha Macav; improve academic achievement and strengthen the relationship between the school and tribal community while recognizing and supporting parental responsibility and involvement.

SERVICES AVAILABLE:

  • Academic Achievement Programs such as:
    1. Homework Club: After school tutoring and homework assistance
    2. Student Success Plans: Individual plans coordinated with parents/teachers to plan students progress and success
    3. School Site Monitoring: Coordinated with students to conduct individual tutoring, counseling and advocacy, if needed, for meetings such as IEPS and disciplinary issues as school
    4. Summer & School Break Programs: Classes designed to promote learning and culture in a fun setting
    5. GED instruction provided to assist in completing the exam
  • Financial Assistance is provided, in accordance with the policy, for the following:
    1. Payment of school fees for mandatory classes
    2. Assistance with eye glasses/contact lenses (up to $150.00 for students in pre-school  to twelfth grade, annually)
    3. School Clothing Allowance provided twice per year to eligible students
    4. Meal money for school sports trips
    5. Payment of credit recovery classes
    6. Payment of GED tests for enrolled Tribal Members
    7. Grants/Scholarships available for college and AVT Students
  • Incentive Programs to recognize excellence and improvement, in accordance with the policy, for the following:
    1. Honor Roll
    2. Perfect Attendance
    3. Students of the Month
    4. Students of the Quarter/Semester
    5. Educational School Trips
    6. Senior Incentive Funding for senior class pictures, class trip, Letterman’s jacket, cap & gown and senior announcements
  • Truancy Prevention Programs
    1. Truancy Meetings which includes the School Resource Officers are held weekly and provide referrals to Fort Mojave Social Services or Tribal Student Attendance Review Board (SARB)
    2. Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) Meetings are conducted monthly in accordance with the Compulsory School Attendance Code of the Fort Mojave Law & Order Code
  • Transportation
    1. Limited transportation is provided in accordance with policy

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Student must be attending a Public School in the Needles, CA or Mohave Valley, AZ area and be a Native American
  • Native American
    1. Enrolled Tribal Member in a Federally Recognized Tribe
    2. Child of an Enrolled Tribal Member
    3. Grandchild of an Enrolled Tribal Member

However, some programs within the department have other eligibility criteria. For example:

  • College Scholarships
    1. Student must be an Enrolled Fort Mojave Tribal Member for at least five (5) years and have a GED or High School Diploma
  • Clothing Allowance
    1. Must be an enrolled Fort Mojave Tribal Member or child of an Enrolled Fort Mojave Tribal Member who attends school in Needles, CA or Mohave Valley, AZ
